Cialis Information

Cialis is a brand name for the drug Tadalafil. Tadalafil is a PDE5 inhibitor, currently marketed in pill form for treating erectile dysfunction (ED or Impotence) under the name Cialis, it has recently been approved for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension, and has been used for other conditions. Tadalafil initially was developed by the biotechnology company ICOS, and then again developed and marketed world-wide by Lilly ICOS, LLC, the joint venture of ICOS Corporation and Eli Lilly and Company. Cialis tablets, in 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg doses, are yellow, film-coated, and almond-shaped. The approved dose for pulmonary arterial hypertension is 40 mg, and will be marketed under the brand name Adcirca. In December 2003, the Food and Drug Administration approved Tadalafil (as Cialis) for sale in the United States as the third ED prescription drug pill (after sildenafil (Viagra) and vardenafil (Levitra)). Cialis's 36-hour effectiveness earned it the nickname, "The Weekend Pill", like sildenafil and vardenafil, Tadalafil is recommended as an 'as needed' medication. Cialis is the only one of the three that is also offered as a once-daily medication.

How to take Cialis

Side effects of Cialis

Headache, flushing, stomach upset, nasal stuffiness, diarrhea and dizziness might occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.

Cialis Precautions

Before using Cialis, tell your doctor your medical history, including any allergies (especially drug allergies), any penis conditions such as fibrosis/scarring, history of painful/prolonged erection (priapism), sickle cell anemia, blood system cancers (such as leukemia or myeloma), or Peyronie's disease, eye problems (retina diseases). kidney or liver disease, bleeding disorders or active stomach ulcers, heart diseases, stroke or severe high or low blood pressure. Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate side effects of this drug. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. The elderly may be more sensitive to the side effects of Cialis, therefore caution is advised in this group.

Cialis Drug interactions

Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially any nitrate medications (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate), nitroprusside (any "nitric oxide donor" medicines), cimetidine, erythromycin, azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), mibefradil, rifamycins (e.g., rifampin) or high blood pressure medicines.

Storage of Cialis

Store Cialis at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep Cialis and all medications out of the reach of children.
